I would have preferred it if he hadn't bailed out but rather iterated. It was truly a fascinating experience, albeit it seemed too parochially focused IMHO. All in all it was over before it was even half baked. That said, at the time it also seemed like the best thing since sliced bread.
I think what ultimately killed it was its complexity + then also dragging around tons of legacy code / data.
Funny how webtards (here I mean so-called novice "users") still look for one-size fits-all solutions, when such heavy-duty colossal websites are simply not nimble enough to keep up with the pace of change on the net (if FaceBook continues to more and more icing on the cake, then that thing may implode too -- but in that respect Zuckerberg seems to be smartly encouraging decentralized development ... though again IMHO they need to do that much more).
